When I was a kid (yes, I really WAS a kid once!), my dad took me to York, PA to meet one of HIS boyhood idols--John Grimek. I guess Grimek was about 70 then, still working for Bob Hoffman, and he still looked like he could lift a house! He spent nearly an hour with us, showed us around, and was just plain fascinating to listen to. And this was with two complete strangers to him!The killer was after we were talking wth him for about an hour, he asked us if we wnted to go get something to eat!! I think that visit kicked the switch on somewhere inside of me.

Keith, would have loved to have met a legend like Grimek. What a great memory to have!
moto, agree about Jay. A gentle giant. Very personable and professional in an athletic and business sense.

Yes, I remember him. He was a VERY dramatic poser for his time. He had a twin brother too, but I'm not sure if he competed or not.. I still have an old Musclemag International with him as the "Star Profile"... Very good sweep on his thighs, if I recall correctly. Yup, he was a great poser and has an awesome physique. Very balanced and symmetrical. I used to work for him at his gyms and hang out with him quite a bit. His twin brother Mike did compete in a few shows and was working his way up the ranks, but all of a sudden just stopped and dropped out of the scene. They were very cool guys.

Ski, Sorry bud, but I think I would win on "Who has met the most pros?" I have been going to shows since 88 and competing since 89. I'll be back....it's time for my morning nap.

You may be right Kim,but I`ve been training off and on since `69, and did my first bodybuilding contest in `87.............before that I did power meets and odd-lift contests!!
I have met more than I listed, but probably not too many more than that, keep drawing a blank................it hurts when I think !! :Head Bash:
Damn I feel old!! ;D

The first Pro I met was in 1986, and the one to make the biggest impression on me...Tom Platz. I was in highschool, and saved all year to go to a muscle camp for a week and he was the Pro...just incredible. Elizabeth

First pro I ever met was my inspiration for this all, Monica Brant at the 2003 BodyRock. Others I've met: Mike Morris (a friend of mine and all around GREAT guy), Chris Cormier, Chris Cook, Rich Gaspari, Jenny Lynn, Mari Kudla, Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Gunther, Dave Palumbo, Mark Dugdale, Tommy Thorvilson (sp?), Richard Jones Some of these were just at "meet and greets" at Expos, while others are friends or people I've had the chance to have longer conversations with. I went to the Ironman last year and hung out with Mike, which was like a dream come true...got to meet and hang with some of the pros at the show and expo, got to go on a photo shot with him for MuscleMag, and train at Gold's next to Chris Cook and Tommy T.

Sara, I've known Mike Morris for several years and he's a great guy. If you see or speak with him, please give him my best! Last I know, he lives in CA. Have you seen his web site? Very nice. Think it's bigmikemorris.com

Yes, Jade, he's probably one of the nicest guys I know! Gerry- I'll definitely send him your best next time I talk to him. He's still in CA, Venice to be exact and loving it. I hope he gets more recognition and credit this coming year...he's one of the hardest working guys I know. Last time I talked to him, he was planning on doing the Ironman and Arnold, although I didn't see his name on the list...I'll have to find out

Thanks, Sara. Hope Mike does compete in Ironman and Arnold. He's great to hang with and several times after NOC, we went out to eat with friends and family of his. His nieces are adorable.
He's a dedicated and hard working athlete. Wish him only the best.
