I often think about opening a gym. Checking my finances I think I can do it in about six years. I hate the new chain gyms. I love hard core gyms but I don't like dumps. Even though I have had some of my greatest work out in some dumps.
I think about some of the factors involved in opening a gym. I made an inventory of the things I want. The problem is leasing a building. When your lease is up and your doing well your landlord can black mail you into signing a very expensive new lease. Also I would like to own the equiptment. I know almost every place by me leases the equiptment in case the gym folds. The problem with leasing is that you can't get the exact equiptment you want. Then again it would stink to be stuck with a ton of equiptment that you can get only pennies to the dollar spent. In my mind it would have to be the right size. Not to big or small. I like medium size intimate gyms. Maybe that's the wrong choice of words.
I would start off buying 12 to 15 Nautilus machines. I would have two lifting platforms. One for power lifting with a true power lifting bar. On the other would be a platform for Olympic lifting with the finest Eleiko Olympic bumper set. I would have two moveable squat racks for use on the platforms. I would have dumbells from 25 to 150lbs. I would also have all the benchs and various other machines needed. For cardio I would have 4 Landice treadmills. Since this is a small gym I would only have two shower stalls and a small changing area. A gym dues would be clearly posted on the walls and on paper. There would never be a come into my private office and I'll see how much I can charge you. The floor would be padded of course with hard rubber. The music would only be high energy. Women would be welcomed.
I can dream, can't I?
