I'm taking a week off. I feel burnt out. I had a good 7 week cycle and now I'm shot. I believe it's good to take 5 to 7 days off after 6 to 7 weeks of hard training. The body adapts to the stress of training but it also reaches a point of exhaustion where it is counter productive to continue. Both the mind and the body need a rest.
When I come back I think it's the wrong approach to come back and red line so to speak the tach. I'm going to come back with hard, but manageable workouts. They will soon get hard enough. The wrong thing a burnt out lifter should do is take time off and then try to set personal records the first week back.
During the time off I'll set new goals and strategies to achieve them. One is to add easy cardio days. I always include hard cardio but I also see the value of adding fast walking to the mix. It doesn't waste muscle and it doesn't cut into recuperation from lifting.
When ever I stop for a week I feel like the workouts are hell when I come back. After one week it feels like I'm back on track and raring to go.
