Aesthetics be damned! Mass at all costs! Even if it means a 42 in waist, who cares? Being freaky is all that matters! Yeesch... give me Arnold, Serge, Zane any day.

Chris, this is the look that the your fans like nowadays.....c`mon buddy there`s nothing wrtong with looking pregnant onstage!! I`ve bit*hed about this topic on the boards with people and the look is just wrecking the sport............unfortunately it`s actually becoming accepted, and people need to go back and look at pics of the top guy`s from the 80`s and early 90`s to see what bodybuilding should be all about. A big gut on a ripped guy, should not be accepted.........genetics aside of course. That last link to Mayhem is disturbiong to say the least.........since he won the contest!! I would have much rather seen Alves who was dialed in perfectly take the title.........Badel is great, but wasn`t sharp enough and the gut is getting out of control. Heiko might as well hang it up.............he will never win a show unless he is the sole contestant. He looked impressive in his pre-contest pics.........but you do not wear a tank top on stage!! The younger set says they like the mass monster look, and it should be continued, but the guy`s with this look are getting steadily worse, and after a time will not place well............ or at all. I won`t mention any more names, but these guy`s are winning, when you have guy`s like Alves,Priest,Anthony,Henry, and Dugdale, among others, who get passed over, and it just ain`t right!

The only thing that can be worst: Jocelyn Pelletier with a distended belly Mo

Jocelyn would be in the top 10 if non distensions were the criteria. Mass at the cost of aesthetics is wrong. When guys like Melvin and Darrem were winning shows last year, I thought we were heading back in the right direction. Guess not. If you have to have the belly, at least control it! Saw a photo of Titus that looked disgusting. Can you imagine if they were pregnant and their water broke at the same time? The place would have been flooded! Yuck!!

It seems that the GH/Slin belly look is okay, as long as your 65" chest is hanging on top of it. Unless your Craig Titus, then your chest would be sagging, not even a full year after having surgery to correct this (I have a HUGE problem with him doing surgery in the first place to correct it, not to mention being so blatantly public about it-like it would make him the "second-coming" since he had it done! ). I remember an interview with Jim Manion for the 2003 Olympia during the PPV. The interviewer asked Manion about the belly issue, and Manion flat out said "A big gut is not acceptable onstage, and takes away from definition. And I don't remember anybody getting marked down for a big belly." Well, who won the "O" in 2003? This means the judges are obviously saying one thing and then doing another. I'm not sure what's more sickening- that GH/Slin bellies continue to be in the sport and are actually "getting more popular" or that the judges are actually rewarding these guys. Now, I think IronAge is a great site, I was one of the first members there and used to be a regular poster. Of late, it seems that all sites harp on IA due to them being "so dedicated to the classic look." Call them hardcore, or whatever you may, but the "IronAge ideal" is what BBing is supposed to be about. Somewhere along the way, we as a BBing community/fans/judges/competitors have gotten off that path of what it's about (small waist, big chest and wide shoulders, with legs that accentuate the upperbody- which I happen to think that todays legs do not overpower the physique as some say, just my opinion). Definition will always lose out to the mass monster, unforetunately we're in an age where even a half as defined mass monster such as King Kamali is regarded as being a winner over someone like Mark Dugdale, whose symmetry and proportion are that of what's considered ideal- not just BBing's ideal, but a Greek appeal and Steve Reeves/John Grimek type appeal. So we're lost on the path of BBing, now how do we bring it back? Or can we bring it back to what it once was? With more competitors like Dugdale, Henry, Charles and Jones coming up in the ranks and starting to place well-even win some contests- I think we're on the right track. I just hope it continues in this direction and doesn't make a haphazard U-turn........ I'll get down now........

A gift wrapped in a bow!! Henry, Dugdale and Morris all looked better. He should have been 9th or 10th.

From the pictures I saw, both Mark and Dave looked far better than Titus, and even Kamali. Are the judges seeing something that I, and probably many others, not seeing?

I wish I would have gotten pics of Jocelyn Pellieter and his near heart attack on stage during prejudging. He did a hands over head abdominals, and I thought he was going to drop dead of an M.I. right there.

The vacuum pose is a thing of the past. If these guys tried to suck their guts in their heads would pop.

Agree, the vacuum is a great shot which shows good dieting and muscle control. Frank Zane was a master of it. Lance Johnson is one of the handful who can execute it today. Looks great on him. Some good examples in photo section of www.freekfizzeek.com
