I sat in the 4th row at the show, and can tell you that Mark was more sliced than anyone onstage, and was even harder than Dex in some poses. While Mark is not big...relative to the other guys...he is so symmetrical and proportionate...like a modern day Zane/Labrada.
I had him in the top 6 for sure!

Absolutely agree with Bodyfx; I was about 25 rows back near center and you could definitely see the difference and what incredible shape Mark was in from back there. I posted a few more comments on the top placers in the Arnold results thread for anyone interested.

Mark represents everything that is right with our sport. The true meaning of "mass with class"

From the photos, Mark looked incredible. And a pal who was there said the photos did not do Mark enough justice. He should have been no worse than 6th.
Regardless, he has done himself proud. And the best is yet to come.

Mark looks great, exactly how I envision myself to look one day. I think Tim just likes him though, because Mark is like Tim, but younger, better looking and bigger!!! ;D :Goaline Dance:

I agree with you guys, Mark looks great. It's hard to believe he placed 8th. It's a shame. I hope it doesn't get him down.

MD looks PHENOMENAL! His build is so pleasing to the eyes! That's a great build to try and emulate if you ask me!

Mark looked great at the arnold. I've become a big fan of his both as a person and as an athlete. Great guy that will get his turn soon! I thought he should have placed higher, but 8th is bad for his first time at the Arnold. It wasn't exactly a push over line up either. He's got a great future and I look forward to following it.

He looked terrific in Pasadena, but was even better in Columbus. He actually caught a small cold the week between the two shows and as a result dropped a bit more weight and came in harder for the Arnold. He was the first out for the mandatories and typically the first guy has to "warm up" the audience. Not Mark, his conditioning was ridiculous and he set the bar for the rest of the field. The crowd was really impressed and I screamed my fool head off. When his name was announced 1st in the second round of callouts I literally jumped out of my chair with applause. This is his first year in the IFBB and only his second show. He's only going to get better. It won't be long before Mark is the aesthetic athlete everyone is watching just like Dexter is now.

I agree Bob.....he`ll only get better with time, and climb up in the pro ranks.
His physique is what bodybuilding needs to get back to........................pleasing lines, ample size, proportionate, with, above all...........a small waist.
This big gut thing, and size just for the sake of more size alone, is getting way out of hand.
Bigger is not better,..........better is better!

Well said, Tim. Think Mark and David Henry have the talent and look to lead the sport in a positive direction.
Hope they place higher in SF.

Those two athletes along with victor martinez have the physiques I look forward to seeing and would like to see more of. No disrespect ment but guys like Gustavo and Heiko are nasty.

It's so nice to hear voices of reason! Physiques like those above are why I got into serious bodybuilding to begin with.
Great assessment, Bob. When they called Mark out first I thought, "Oh, man, tough assignment going out first." But after he took the stage it was obvious that he was meant to be there and I yelled my fool head off for him every time he came out (and yes, his callout was very exciting!). Up to the Arnold, I had only seen Victor in pictures and have been very impressed. He was definitely off for the ACS and seemed to have a little problem controlling his gut as the shows went on.
I just hope guys like Mark and Dave Henry don't fall prey to the "Bob Paris" syndrome: incredible symmetry, flowing lines and proportions, awesome aesthetics, yet doomed by the judges (and mass monsters) to fall in the upper middle of the pack. Labrada (and Dexter thus far) was able to consistently challenge the top contenders, and I hope these guys do, too.
