I had Charles in front of Mel, and Lee in front of Gus...
I actually think Dugdale should've place top 6...I believe he finished in 9th...

Ninth place for a physique like Dugdale`s is ridiculous............guess his waist is too small!

Dexter Jackson edges Cormier for his first Arnold win
Written by: Shawn Perine
The 2005 Arnold Classic men's bodybuilding competition is in the bag and Dexter Jackson couldn't be happier. "The Blade" finally took home the gold in his eighth AC appearance and let the audience get a rare glimpse of emotion. Tears flowed as he looked heavenward upon hearing Chris Cormier announced the event's bridesmaid. One imagined Cormier himself needed to summon all his great strength to stop a similar flow. This was Chris' sixth consecutive second place finish at the Arnold Classic - a mark unmatched in professional bodybuilding. It was close. Dexter won based on hardness, his typical strong suit. Chris' conditioning wasn't far off, but far off enough to relegate him to his unenviably historic position.
Gustavo Badell took a deep breath as he was announced third. Despite his disappointing finish he's already established himself as a frontrunner for this October's Olympia. Lee Priest took fourth, looking as good as he's ever been. Melvin Anthony finished in fifth and seemed to be happy with the result. A disappointed Darrem Charles took sixth place despite his crisp conditioning and outstanding posing routine.
Melvin Anthony was awarded the trophy for best poser and Dexter Jackson nabbed the most muscular award.
Congratulations must go out once again to Jim Lorimer and Arnold Schwarzenegger for promoting a show that is at the pinnacle of professionalism and excitement.

Nothing against Martinez,as I think he has the potential to be Mr. O someday but helooked off to me in this one.............I don`t know if I would have had him in front of Alves or Dugdale!!

Henry 12th? Ridiculous! Hope he and Dugdale get their due soon.
Felt bad for Atwood. Looked a bit more shapely, needed to be harder going by the photos. He will be back.

I agree with you Gerry about Art, but realistically speaking I don't know what direction he should go in. I do think he deserved better then almost last.
Mark Dugdale should have been at least 6th. A friend of mine saw the show and said Lee Priest was ripped off and should have been 2nd. He said Cormier didn't look as good as people thought.

On the same wavelength, buddy. A friend of mine who was there basically said the same thing; that Cormier looked better than at the O but not as good as Dexter.
Agree that Art should have been at least a couple notches higher. I still think he will bounce back but he has to regroup and decide what to do.

Gerry,I know you and Steve(1400 Total) are big Atwood fans, and not to offend either of you,but in my opinion,Art should forget about the size game........after all,he is going to be huge looking regardless of what the scale reads.
He should drop weight which I beleive would improve his overall look and improve his conditioning.
Great but yet untapped potential so far as a pro, and I bet it`s the brainwashed way of thinking that prevails in todays game that bigger is better, that is the cause.
If he keeps going in the same direction that he has been going in,I`m afraid his placings will remain the same...........regardless of conditioning..........why don`t these guys realize this?
Anyway, good luck to him,I`ve heard he`s a great person, which is far more important anyway....but not when it comes to winning or placing higher.....a year off, with a change in strategy, and I bet he would be far more impressive!!
I hope you guys are not pissed off by my opinion,as my opinion matters to no one but me anyway!! ;D

Tim, I always respect your opinion and everyone else's. And I do not think you are wrong. I did not have Art in the top 10 (I thought 11 or 12).
And at last year's NOC, I'd suggested to him that his mantra should be "lighter and tighter". He won the 01 Nationals around 245 and looked very impressive.
He is a great guy and I hope he will go this route.

Tim, the one reason I faithfully follow this board is because it reminds me of the old Ironman magazine. Never a bad word spoken about some one. I would never consider your opinion flaming or bashin, but well respected.
I certainly agree with you about Art. In his first video there are scenes of him posing outdoors by a pool, a day after his first pro show and win. His waist was much smaller then it is presently. His seperation was clear and very impressive. He needs to reclaim that look as well.
Some one on the board mentioned Mark Dugdale needs to put on more size. Well my thinking is that Mark needs to slowely add size much like Shawn Ray did over the coars of his career. Mark's physique is close to perfect right now and if he would add mass now he would turn into anther badell. I like badell but he has crossed the line this year. He looked very good at the Ironman but dropped (in my opinion) at the Arnold. His waist is now threatening his proportions.
I think the sport is now trying to force the guys to come in tighter and tighter every year thus focusing on complete development rather then pure mass. Which is why Darrem, Melvin, Dexter, and Victor have been so successfull

I saw the show on PPV last night and really enjoyed it!
Personally, i totally agree with Dexter's frist place, but i had Melvin and Darrem a bit higher ( 3 and 4 ). But my opinion is based on the fact that i prefer more esthetics physiques… so i'm not saying that this guys was miss placed!
Finally, i think that it could be i great idea to add more interviews or gym scenes in introduction to each (or some) of the competitor's routine… it would help the show to be less static and more entertaining i think!

I was sitting in row W, so about 23 rows back plus about 10 feet adding in the judges' and photographers' areas, just about dead center. Seats were pretty good but obviously the judges had the best view. It's amazing the difference between pictures and actually being there. I thought Dexter clearly beat Chris. It was very telling from behind; Chris may have edged him (barely) in the back, but Dexter was shredded in the glutes and hams with great tie-ins. Chris was just plain soft in those areas. Dexter's shoulders were also more rounded and striated giving him a wider appearing upper body, add in his narrow waist and it's an amazing taper. I also thought Lee Priest was better than Chris and I had him in second even though I didn't think the judges would do it. His legs, normally a weaker area, looked awesome. I think his only problem is the rest of his body makes his chest look small. Gustavo started losing control of his gut in the night show and that may have hurt him, although he certainly wasn't as sharp as the pictures I've seen of him from the Ironman. I can't say enough about Mark Dugdale. He came on first in all the posing and the crowd really appreciated his look. Probably one of the top two conditioned athletes on stage that day.
In all, I'm not a fan of anybody in particular, except maybe Jay Cutler and Mark Dugdale, so I don't think I was too biased in watching the show, but I think deep inside I wanted Chris to finally win it. Unfortunately he wasn't at his best that night.
