I've been out of the gym scene for about 2 years. After coming back like 3 weeks ago I seen that everyone has a friggin cell phone. People on treadmills talking on cellphones.WTF! Every 5 minutes a new phone rings with some idiot talking with a phone in hand and a dumbell in the other. I think phones should be banned from gyms. I'd rather watch the guy sitting on the flat bench with his morning paper than someone with a phone in their hand. It wasnt like this 3 or 4 years ago.

Posted on other forums about this and agree 100%. Either leave the cell in your car or locker. They should not be allowed on the gym floor.
My friends cousin is a doctor on call and when he trains he leaves the number of the gym in case he must be reached.
At our church, there is a notice in the lobby that cells must be turned off before entering church. Makes sense to me.
They are a good convenience in case of emergencies, but too many just go overboard.

overboard doesn't even begin to cover it... I can't stand people that while they are check out at like walmart are on the phone the WHOLE time and just throws the money at the cashier... have some respect. totally agree.. no cells in public buildings would work

There was a guy carrying his phone around with him in the gym on tuesday. I had to struggle to hold in my laughter when either he or one of his training partners dropped a plate on it! It was in bits, hopefully it'll teach him a lesson.
I don't take my phone to the gym, when i do it stays in the changing rooms

Hahahaha. I totally agree! If I take my phone to the gym I turn it OFFFFFFFFFFFFFF! It's not athat freaking hard to do. You push a little button and hold it down for 2 or 3 seconds. I can check messages when I'm done. NOW LEAVE ME THE F ALONE SO I CAN TRAIN hahahaha

You have hit upon one of my greatest pet peeves with people I see in the gym.
One time I even saw someone doing one arm dumbell curls while talking on his phone. Then after about 10 reps he would switch arms. This went back and forth for about 3-4 sets. I almost killed the guy.
Another time I "accidentally" stepped on and busted someone's cell phone that was left on the floor. The guy looked like his best friend died, so I consoled him by saying, "If you only could have left it in your locker for an hour..."

It's sad but true...especially when the person talking on the phone is, "using" the squat rack to do barbell curls....

The guy doing one arm curls while on his cell phone was no doubt getting the latest correct method from his personal trainer.

I leave my cell in my car. I hate cell phones in the gym period. At my gym there's this guy, and he moves some huge ass weight, talking on his phone constantly. Once I saw him tell the person "Hold up a sec...." does his set of about 30 reps of Seated Rows, and then picks the phone back up and continues the conversation! I hate cell phones, and there should absolutely be banned from the floor. What did people do before cell phones? It can wait people-whatever it is, it can wait.

One advantage of training at home is that I don't have to witness all those dimwits, halfwits and nitwits flappin' their gums on the phone. What on earth are they talking about? What can possibly be soooo important or interesting that they need to be on the phone?

I dont have one, just a pager for the security company for the home alarm.
Nor do I have cable or satellite dish
High speed internet.
They are great if you need them, but I'd rather be active in the gym or outdoors, or even better, talking to live humans.

NEVER had a cell phone, don't EVER want a cell phone, if they can't reach me at home or via emal then too friggin' bad, there is still such a thing as privacy that seems to be at the early stages of a dying art.. cell phones indeed!! baaaah !!

The mayor for our city works out in the gym occasionally (Bubba) from In the heat of the night show his real name is Alan Autry, he was on the phone the whole time he was in there, I was listening and he was giving an interview to someone probably the media while in the crunch machine. I said to him the city obviously keeps you pretty busy he said "you would'nt want my life" LOL he's a good dude and does have a helluva job handling all the crap that goes down here thats for sure. Guess i'm the only guilty one here of using it in the gym

I must be really old school, I don't even own a cell phone. I think they should be hung by their toenails from the power rack. Along with that guy who throws the weights down after every set. Only for a few minutes of course. he he
