a two digit integer with y as the units and x as the tens can be written as 10x + y.
The steps from the site are to add the digits, subtract the number from original integer. Algebraically (and using 10x+y to represent the integer) this can be written:
10x +y - (x+y)
simplifying to 10x+y-x-y=9x
So the answer will always be a multiple of 9 and all the multiples of 9 have the same symbol.
