Hey, Bob. Work for a publisher in the accounting end of the business. Report and pay royalties to authors on a continuous basis. Also do in house reports.
When I can, will get in touch and explain further.

I understand. I use to do work for a professor that received royalties.
It has to be a great feeling to receive royalties.

I wouldn't know, Bob! But guess it must be. When I see some of the checks that go out, I sure wish one of them were payable to me!

I am a mainframe computer programmer for a state agency in the South. And let me tell you it is tough to fit my love for lifting while tied to a desk 8-5 M-F, no freedom to come and go. To make it worse, just can't get myself to wake up and do that 4:00 am workout, so the late day is where I have to do it.....Maybe I should take it as a sign to get another job!!!. I will ask my wife, she will tell me what I should think LOL !!!! ;D Hey Michael, I'm a mainframer too. Out of work since last summer due to deep cut backs in Boston (and all over). I'm now near Kansas City looking for a position. Have you guys had any problems with outsourcing? It's becoming a LARGE problem. Most of our jobs went to India. I like the president but he can't allow these same companies he's giving tax breaks to, to then send our jobs overseas.

Man that really pisses me off when I hear about American jobs going to India/Pakistan or fill in the blank! It's a of bull sh*t!!! Did you see that Dell finally pulled their tech support from overseas after all the complaints. Sorry about the rant!

Since I work for a state government, the red tape often hurts us when it comes to raises and promotions, but in this case it may have helped us with regards to out-sourcing and other cut backs. Although I think our low pay in state government is like out-sourceing LOL !! Good luck in KC, I lived in St.Louis, and enjoyed many trips up there. !!

Michael I hear ya. Lower pay but some security Kansas City isn't offering a lot right now and everything seems to go through a monopolizing staffing company called MeagForce - which I'd rather not be a cog for. I dunno I'm from the east coast and was a few blocks from the ocean for the last few years in Boston and Philly wasn't too far from the shore. KC seems a bit isolated at times I'm feeling a magnetic pull towards the Colorado Mountains so who knows what the future brings. ;D

I'm a merchindiser for Dreyers Ice Cream. AKA Edy's on East of the Rockies. Easy job once you learn it, and you get paid for 8 hours no matter your time in the field, my record is one hour and 50min. But if you go over the eight, you do get overtime. It's a win win situation! Plus, it's physical, and I like that aspect. I love the fact, as well, needing a good memory to see an aisle of up to 400 items on the shelf, and know exactly how much to bring out and of what to bring out. Job rocks!!!

Wow, how did I miss this thread all this time? I must have been sleepin'! After high school I went to community college and got a degree in veterinary technology. I then worked as a vet tech (pet nurse) for the next 12 years until I got totally burned out, and my then-boss was going to retire. At that point I was studying to take the PT exam, figuring since I spent so much time in the gym anyway, I might as well get paid for it! Passed the test and started looking for a job as a trainer. Worked for Bally's for 5 months, but as you can guess, that sucked big time, and I didn't have enough business there, so I was "asked to resign". At that point I went from working part-time as a mortgage processor for my husband to full-time (if you can call it that; it's usually only a couple hours work a day), and supplement that by teaching fitness and cardio classes at the community college (which is also pretty easy, and I enjoy it). So I guess I've become pretty lazy lately; I don't have to do the 8-5 or 9-6 rat-race any more (I HATE getting up early anyway), and we get to set our own hours for the most part. Pay in the mortgage business is strictly commision, so it's always either feast or famine, but when we do get paid, it's great. And we can go to the gym whenever we want.

I worked in various fields until 92. From 92-2004 I worked for Sony, in various differant departments. Eventually ended up in supervision. Then Got laid off last April, but since June I've been working as a production manager in a manufacturing facility (supplies the automotive industry). I love it, the most challenging and rewarding job I've had. But I would love to work with kids some day.

Let's see... I dropped out of tech school, was working on electronics engineering. I eventually went back to university and majored in english literature for a while then switched to journalism (where I met my wife who also graduated from journalism a year behind me).
Worked as a reporter for about a year or so and absolutely hated it, with the exception of photography, editorials and fearture articles.
For the last 12 or 13 years I've worked as a technical writer. Currently, I write software manuals, help files, web site "stuff" and technical training.
I've always had trouble as I'm extremely artistic on one end of the spectrum, yet very technical and mechanical on the other. My favorite job was writing repair and maintenance manuals for equipment in the oil industry. When I'd had enough writing or doing graphics on the computer, I could roll up my sleeves and go get dirty in the shop.
Nowadays I just do software, quite boring but leaves me time for lots of training.

I'm usually up at 5am and in stores by quarter to six. I'm usually done by the time you wake up!!! Hehehehe..... I love bein' lazy! ;D Trust me, I had ENOUGH years of getting up at 5 a.m., either for school, job, or b/c my then-husband had to get up & I was kind enough to have breakfast with him. Then you have to go to bed at 9 p.m. and tape all the good shows. But hey, what you got to complain about? You get paid 8 hours to work 4 1/2, then you've got the rest of the day off to sleep, work out, eat, and have sex!!
