Well this years Pittsburgh city championships were better then I can remember. The physiques are getting better every year. And this year there were 9 IFBB pro guest posers!
Roc Shabaz
Melvin Anthony
Darrem Charles
Gunter Shclierkamp
CHris Cormier
Dexter Jackson
Victor Martinez
Jay Cutler
Ronnie Coleman
First off, something needs done with the figure class.
This show had 160+ athletes, There were at least 45 girls competing in figure.
Maybe some people like watching them, but its awefully boring. Now here me out. Figure girls train real hard to get in the shape they do, but its not a sport, and its being treated like one. It's lame and de-grating. Why on earth do we need 2 rounds, which consist of a one piece suit and a 2 piece suit
Fitness on the other hand is awesome. Athletic routines combined with an awesome display of muscle in action is the way to go.
Of course the womens bodybuilding was damn good too.
I'm glad the girls are still taking it seriously.
Much "props" to the bodybuilding girls.
NOw for the men.
The show was awesome! However I must disagree with the overall winner. He was an awesome middleweight who was truely ripped. Proportional and dialed in perfectly. However, in my opinion he was a very good local athlete, he might not be ready for the national stage.
On the other hand the light heavy was unbelievable!!
Thick pecs, enormous back, great arms, thick thighs and ripped.
When you build muscle that thick and round sometimes the striations aren't as impressive as less dense muscle.
Compare Darrem charles to Ronnie COleman and you see what I mean.
At any rate the extra crisp clean definetion of the middleweight won over the extreme mass and size of the light heavy. I want to stress the light heavyweight was ripped, just not ripped enough to beat the middleweight.
Here is where I take exception. Conditioning always take precendent over anything else. This is wrong. Some guys can be supre ripped but show no density or size. The light heavy had more mass, rounder muscles, better density, arguably better poportions, yet because he wasn't ultra shredded those atrributes fell short
Now onto the guest posers:
Melvin was true off season-and thats all I'll say about that.
Chris Cormier looked great, I spoke with him in the lobby and he was way cool. We joked about his new dvd and how he blasted Steve Blechman for not paying him. Chris also said he is doing his own dvd with off season shape and weights. Now thats What I'm talking about!!!
Dexter was in very good condition and he is always a good guy.
Ronnie, what can I say the man is inhuman!!!! When all the guys came out into the audiance to pose, Ronnie was standing right next me. He was enormous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gunter was cool as always and really gets into his fans. Especially the ladies!!!!!!!
Jay was very cool and we talked in the loby. Jays arms must be the biggest in the sport! His calves are from another planet!
I mentioned to him that I had everything on his table(dvd's and book) and said he did a great job with all of them.
I want to thank Muscletech for Chris and Jay their photos were free! Jay gave me a cool poster and signed it for my boys!!
Darrem CHarles routine was excellant and I dare say he will win the new york show. He looked much bigger then i thought he would and he was in striking distance of the show.
Victor Martinez. If this man doesn't watch out he will explode!!! His muscles were huge. His side chest is frightening! And he is a cool dude.
One other pro was there too Lee Priest. Talk about cool. Arms are mindboggling. Thie only problem was he didn't guest pose
All in all a great show.
Congrats to Jim Manion and Gary Udit
