Thats it. After being at Saturdays show I have decided its time to start dieting. I know, I know. Why sooo early. Let me tell ya. There are some big dudes out there that need to be beat. The only way that is going to happen is with some seriuos conditioning. The only way I am going to achieve that is to stay lean year round. I really wanted to put on some serious size this year and I am gaining quit well, but at the expense of too much fat gain for my liking. So here we go. Remeber there is really only 24 more weeks until April........ So what the hell, lets get this party started. WATCHOUTNOW!!!
There was a guy competing at the show that told me , he had my Pic up at his gym for inspiration. I couldnt believe it. Thats a HUGE compliment. This guy went on to win his class and the novice overall. Now I know I have to really step it up. What if we meet up next season and I am lesser than I was this year. Aint gonna happen. I am putting this body into 5th gear baby!! ITS ON NOW!!

Just kidding brother.............I know what you mean about some great up and coming guys at these contests.
I`m maintaining nicely so far.........only a bit of fat on my obliques...........gaining slowly to hopefully ensure that most of my newly gained size is muscle rather than just fat and water.
I`ll be joining you in dieting very soon anyway.

I dont think it's too early Randy. First, i stongly believe that conditionning is what seperate top spot from the others , having muscle mass is something, but being able to keep it while on 3-4% bodyfat is something else that only few have the courage to do! Second, i did my 1st show of the season on april 15th this year and i started my pre contest diet at the beginning of december even if i was far from out of shape condition… and believe me, if you want to retain as much muscle as you can, you NEED all those weeks. Loosing 6-7 lbs in a week is possible, but not the best way to keep muscle while being lean… 0,5 to 1,5 is the objective in my mind, so if for exemple you are 16 lbs from contest shape, allow you 22-24 weeks of dieting, considering you wont succed at loosing weight every week…
Go for it Randy, i know you'll be surprisingly good in 2007

Saturday I hit McDonalds..........hadn`t been there in many months.
Ate just one Big Mac,a Fliet-O-Fish,and a chocolate shake............I was gonna` get another BM and filet, but had to control myself.
I`m cleaning up the diet a bit now and it`ll get a little better as I go along, but I need more of an off-season to try to add more size and bring up weak points.
I know I can do it this year if I remain healthy as far as injuries go.
I say it every year and I mean it but this year,I`m gonna` improve dramatically or die trying.
I`m still making decent gains at 51 years old........I was always a latye bloomer in life.

Last year I started dieting in January for an April contest in Buffalo..........this year my first show is in May most likely.....still debating but 20 weeks of dieting slowly is what my plan is so I don`t lose size. 20 weeks is no joke then I`ll do more shows and attempt to get leaner with each one while holding on to my size............I hope!!!

I know some girls that diet all year round. LOW carbs and high cardio and still put on muscle every year.

I know some girls that diet all year round. LOW carbs and high cardio and still put on muscle every year. Randy, i believe in a long pre contest diet to make sure to be in top condition, but i dont think it's the optimal way to GAIN muscle. In fact, those are two completely different objectives and succeding 100% on both at the same time is something impossible, at best a compromise is something we can hope for… Adding weight on a regular basis is not the best way to stay lean, but it is for sure the best way to gain muscle. I would not have the energy to do it this way every year, but last years off season was by far my most beneficial (adding weight almost every 2 weeks). It was at the expense of more bodyfat and a more difficult pre-contest diet (20 weeks before my 1st contest and 30 weeks total instead of the ususal 10 weeks) but if i would really want to add muscle mass year after year (and doesnt care bout staying fit year round), i would do it like this every time!

Tis the season to start leaning then! I'm going to join you, although I'm not actually aiming for a show... I need to be higher in bodyfat to grow some muscle though, round 20% for me! Sometimes its hard being an ecto-endo body type!

I dont want to be over 7-8 % Fine, it's your choice. In fact Randy, you know i think the same when it comes to bodyfat percentage... i always prefered to eat clean year round and stay as lean as i could. Having a relatively lean physique 365 days a year has always been more important for me than being optimal in my muscle mass gains so...
