Posting pics here is intmidating.... Seems like I'm either 10-15 years older than you young dudes OR everyone my age or older here have been lifting and competing for 10 years... ha... I'll get to it Randy. You are only 4 years older than me!!!! No mre excuses. look at Tim, and he's like 102 years old.

OKEY DOKEY!
Now that the dust has settled i'll add my 2 centavos.
MastersChamp brings up an important point. Young guys who are burning 2000 calories a day just breathing can get away with alot TO A POINT. At around 30 how our bodies metabolize fats starts to change with the decrease in the production of growth hormone. Heavy excercise can allieviate that to a great degree but diet is more key. Stress, environment, medical issues or lack thereof all have an effect of what kind of weight and where it goes.
Bulking for me is far more problematic with my health history. I have to keep it lean, low sugar, low sodium to control issues of visceral fat (thank you chemo) and high bp.
Emotional responses key in as well. If we internalize alot of the everyday BS and negativity, it changes our bodies responses, anywhere from lowered immunity and impulse eating to serious emotional problems like depression, anorexia, "bigorexia", self hatred, resentments, and substance abuse.
Research is key. As uncomfortable as it is, I'm taking a hard look at the issues of lypodistrophy that have plauged me since my cancer and chemo. There is research going on out there showing promising results, but FDA approval for anything is years away.
So for me it's following what my body tells me. Eating clean but not being fanatical about it, keeping my cardio and ab work up as boring as that is, treating myself from time to time and not beating myself up over it, and learning healthier alternatives.
Do you homework, talk to a nutrtionist who has a degree (mine has two in sports nutrition) and be honest about any health problems that your family may have.

Good reponse Brock. I think you point further exemplifies the need that each person is different and needs to find out what works for them as an individual.

Regarding BigMikes comments on looking bigger....
My wife always tells me it is difficult for her to see my progress, because she sees me every day.
BUT...we do take progression pics....BIG difference between my first show as a bantamweight (can you say skin and bones!)...my next as a welterweight, next as a lightweight, and next as a middleweight! ...and I placed top 5 every time! Mostly luck, I'll assure you!
BUT..the pics don't lie.
and of course.....I do tell my wife that if she wants, I'll get one of those side mirrors to wear around my waist that says "OBJECTS APPEAR LARGER IN THE MIRROR!" ;D
