2nd that. Awaiting anxiously... Wel Bob. You were 100% right. It was all about conditioning or should I say SKINNY!!!! PERIOD! Just skinny! I placed 4th and 4th!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT HAPPY at all about this. I think it may be time to switch federations. Somewhere that they award BBer's not swimmers!

Its so subjective. I am not used to this. Playing sports my whole life that come down to pure heart and determination! You score more goals! You make it to the finish line first! Whatever it may be. Its cut and dry! BBing on the other hand. Hmmmmm...
in my eyes BBing is not about just one attribute.
ITS:
Size! Muscularity PROPORTION! conditioning presentation
Its a package of these and whover achieves closest to having all of these things should win. This is what I thought anyway. Apparently I was wrong! I just dont get it! I guess maybe the OCB is not a good fit for me. At least the Yankee Classic anyway. They were (in my eyes) truly going on condition ALONE! A swimmer/boy band physique (SKINNY). IF THAT! Dunno. I will contact Sully to see what he says.
If I placed fourth, Dorian would have NOT placed at all here!!!
Even the posing was TERRIBLE! I am refraining from bad mouthing the other competitors, but come on!!! Seriosly! Some of the poses were NOT even poses! Dayum! What is going on!

I am a BBer!!!!! I know! But I swear to that I would have seriously done better in this show if I did NOT list weights! NO KIDDING!
If a guy ran the Boston marthon on day, he could show up the next, throw on some Dream Tan and win his class at this show!

Randy, Conditioning is absolutely paramount these days. The trick is to have quality muscle size along with EXTREME conditioning. Take some time and look over pictures from the show. Maybe you could have been cut even more, sit back and honestly assess your condition on stage........... I've see alot of bodybuilders who thought they were ripped step on stage and be fairly tight but NOT shredded! That's what it takes today. I would probably think it is a dietary thing.................you may have to adjust your pre contest dieting strategy. In any case...you gave it your best. However, don't discount the efforts of those who placed higher....we ALL work very hard at this game. Learn form this and plan ahead acoording to what you need to do to better yourself.

I understand this MC... Its not that. Yeah, I could have been harder (more conditioned) absolutely. But does muscle count for something? I mean SERIOUSLY. Some of these guys had NONE! I had a balance at least. If all that counts is conditioning than You me and everyone else over here should just hang up the trunks! You were conditioned in your shows, NO DOUBT, but would you give up 20-25 LBs of that muscle you had and still expect the same outcome?

I used to be a physique judge in the AAU back in the day and we always looked for the best total package. Conditioning played a big role but you also had to have some muscle to back it up. Bodybuilding really is about who has the best total package. That being said, it is a subjective sport and its our job to come in with the best package possible to leave no doubt in the judges mind except who is going to be in second place!

Randy. It's about conditioning, it's about muscle, it's about how the judges see you and determine how you stack up with the other competitors on stage with you. I had a disappointing finish at my last show on June 30th. I am going to share something with you that I haven't mentioned before.
I won my class and won my fourth Pro Card. But, I didn't.
On Tuesday, after the show, the president of the federation and the show's promoter, called me and said, "Scott, you won your class. You were the best man on stage. And because I respect and admire you, I am going to tell you something. My normal head judge and one of my best judges couldn't make this show, so I had to bring in two certified, but less experienced judges. If my normal line up of judges would have been here, you would have won going away."
Here's how I lost. Eight of the judges placed the Third Place man in Third. One of the "new" judges, placed that man First and me Third. It was the only First place he got and the only Third place I got. I got the same number of First Place votes as the guy I tied, but in the tie breaker, the mis-marked Third place vote cost me the title. This from the president.
Now, that said, in my opinion, if I had been in a little better condition, I might have picked up one more First Place vote and the decision would have gone my way.
I took it as a lesson learned. As I prepare for my next show on August 18, I am training and dieting to come in hard, lean, shredded, cut and defined. I may still lose, but it's not going to be because I wasn't in the best contest condition of my life.
And, taking a page from Keith's "Playbook," I am working with Eric Brugh on my contest diet, to ensure all my bases are covered.

Randy....I think you answered you own question...............you have quality muscle, it's your conditioining you have to take to the next level. Did you honestly do everyhting you could have to come in peeled? One mistep here or there could make all the difference iin the world. With all the experience I have, I now rely on someone else to do my diet for me ...Eric Brugh. The results have been terrific....maybe you should consider having someone take over the nutrirional aspect of your contest prep. It's the best move I could have made.

Randy,
Sorry to hear about your disappointment. I know you poured your heart and soul into this show. Regroup, get back in the gym like you want to, and train it out of your system. Your drive and attitude have been an inspiration to me and for what it's worth, I think you should keep competing; you have a great future in this sport despite the bad taste from last night.

Live to fight another day. It has happened to us all. Learn from the experience and use it for the next show. I just had this happen at the NABBA Junior Nationals last year. I weighed 244 on stage and was beaten by guys that were under 190 pounds. My first reaction was the same as yours but after I really looked at the pictures I had to agree with the call. They were much tighter then me. I took the next month and beared down on the diet and came to the NABBA National in much better condition and beat all that had beaten me 4 weeks before. A lot of emphasis is placed on conditioning because it is the hardest aspect of contest prep to achieve. Here is a picture from the show I was talking about. I said the same thing, " these guys look like swimmers".

Eric, you make anyone look like a swimmer! You are once again so right, its that final shrink wrapped look thats the hardest aspect to achive.
