Hi all, just a question. I'm presently shredding and I was wondering which would be better - carb cycling or calorie cycling?
I presently do carb cycle but I also have a high caloric intake day once a week. I'm not sure this is really working though. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You should be pretty sure it is working. If not, change something. Try to go to extremes if you really want to look extreme. What are you doing now?

you will inadvertently cycle calories when you cycle carbs, so you might as well just do that, lol

My present carb cycle looks like this (ala Tim):
Day-1)150 gms. Dat-2)100 gms. Day-3) 50 gms. Day-4)125 gms. Day-5)200 gms.
I need to clarify that I have lost some bf but I was hoping to see better results. Day 3 kills me!!
BTW: What would be a realistic weight loss on this? Over the last 4 weeks, I've droped around 8lbs.

Okay. Try this. Drop all carbs except for pre and post workout (weights). Eat NO carbs on cardio day. The reason you fell like crap on the third day is because you are feeding yourself carbs up to that point. Your body is using them as its fuel source. You cut them low and your body is screammin "SUGAR, PLEASE!!!" Your body needs to adjust to burning fat as fuel. NOT CARBS. Its like getting hit with low blood sugar. Your body is freaking out that it has no carbs. Now what. Get your carbs low enough for long enough for your body to use its own fat for fuel. You can play with eating some carbs for breakfast. I find this leaves me a mess by late afternoon. Same reason I described above. Id rather personally use them around training. Alot of people I work with do well with a carb spike every 3-4 days. 1 Large baked potatoe at night every 3-4 days is an example. I know this sounds extreme. IT IS!!! You will notice MAD fat loss within 2 days. You will fell fantastic and have full energy once your body switches to fat for fuel. (9 calories per gram) opposed to the 4 you get from carbs + no more low blood sugar blues. This is how the body works. You are not losing efficiently right now. If you train right and dont overdo cardio you will not lose muscle. Make any sense?

PS. You may want to start before monday. Like I said earlier. The first few days are the worst. Its tuff to go back to the gym feeling half dead. I am assuming you are training on Monday?? Get the bod used to it asap. R

does not cycling your carbs effect your calorie already?
since your fat and protein I assume would stay the same...changing the amount of carbs in your diet would automatically cycle your calorie?

Until you are satisfied. (shredded) If that is what you want. You will learn alot about your body along the way. Its a great experience.

Thanks Rubicon. So far, it's been good (lol). I just had breakfast - instead of my usual 7 egg whites, I did 5 egg whites and 2 whole eggs. Let's see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

TNA, I have a reply to Tim's post about how he carb cycles. It explains the way I cycle my carbs for a contest. It is found on page three, I believe. I hope it helps. BTW-- I basically do little if any cardio when getting ready for a show!

Hey Keith, I read your post and it also sounds good/logical. I think I need to tweak my carb cycling a little. I've been on no carbs for 3 days now. So far, it's going ok but I like your method of cycling the fiberous and starchy carbs - it seems to fit my lifestyle a bit more. I also think I'm going to try a 3 low and 2 high plan. For the remainder of this week I'm going to stick with the no carbs and possibly change it up next week. As for cardio, I need to do at least 5 days a week. I gained a lot of BF due to a broken ankle (back in February) so there were no workouts or cardio for 3 months. Right now I'm at 7 days a week @ 30-45 min. sessions.

You're doing exactly what you should be doing my brother---you are trying several things in an attempt to find what works for YOU. That is the "not so" secret of this game--find what works for YOU. That was the point I was trying to make in reference to my no cardio thing. Everyone today seems to think you HAVE to do it. I just wanted to show that nothing is carved in stone! Anything I can do to help you on your way just give me a shout.
Keith
