last squat day before the meet.
1x10x120 1x5x220 3x2x320 2x2x420 2x1x470
now I have a problem and I do not know what to do? I normally train without a belt. I bought a belt about a week ago, and whenever I wear it for squats it digs into my sides and feels very uncomfortable. In fact for some strange reason I feel a lot stronger without it. I did the 470 today on the first set with the belt and it was a little shakey. But the second set was done without the belt and it I felt 100 times stronger.
I have never known anyone not to use a belt in comp, but I do not want this to be a distraction. Any suggestions?

I do not know any thing about PL meets. If the belt is not required, and you feel better without it I think I would go without. Main thing stay safe

Tri State was an awesome experiance! My first full meet and it went extremely well.
Squat, 1st attempt 470. I placed the bar too high, and squatted with a very narrow stance. It went up super slow and felt heavy! (shaked my confidence)
2nd attempt 500lbs. Better much better. Wider stance. Most told me it looked much better then the 470.
3rd attempt 530lbs. Even better then the 500. Much wider stance, lower bar placement felt awesome. Once I started using my glutes along with the quads the weight went up nicely.
4th attempt 560lbs. Best lift. Bossi said it looked like an opener! (nice feeling!) I did not use my belt
Bench 1st attempt 385. Nice 2nd attempt 405lbs. Nice and strong. 3rd attempt 415lbs went up strong! (set a new PR) 4th atttempt 425 got stapled!!!
Deadlift 1st attempt 525lbs-strong 2nd attempt 575lbs- strong as well, although a little slow 3rd attempt 600lbs-grinder but I got it and I was spent!
Got 1st in the sub masters superheavyweight class
official total 1575!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve that is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on a great first full meet, it's only going to get bigger and better.Looks like now you will be know as 1575 total until you break that.

Thanks Roger, WOTW is family to me and you have been giving me a lot of support which I thank you for. Every muscle and joint in my body hurts today.
Last night I went out after the meet with one of the judges, another lifter who I drove down with, and George who lifted but was also the meet director.
It was a great time. I easily ate a 16oz steak that was really good!
George lifted and let me tell you he is insanely strong. He was in the under 275 class. He was up until 2 am the night before weighing every weight. Anything slightly over or under what it was suppose to be was tossed aside! He still managed a 1510 total!

I have now begun my prep for an ADAU meet in 8 weeks. Before anyone says anything, I am a true blue 100% Raw man, but when you live in western PA there is not a lot of choices. Not to mention since I am back to school on Saturdays I can only hit meets when I do not have Saturday classes.
This prep should be significantly better then the last one. For one reason I will havea full 8 weeks to prepare. Also I will be paying close attention to my nutrition ( I would like lose 20-25lbs). I am also using BCAA's, Creatine, and Luecine.
Not to mention The guru knowns as George Shrieve has turned me onto to SHEIKO!
Day 1 Bench press (setsxrepsxweight) 1x5x212 2x4x255 2x3x297 5x3x320
Squat 1x5x280 2x5x336 5x5x392.5
Bench Press 1x6x212.5 2x6x250 4x6x270
Dumbell shoulder press 2x10x65
Some general observations. 1. this is the most volume I have ever used.
2. I thought since I wasn't using over 75% of my max this would be an easy workout! Wrong. I got a great pump and I am currently exhausted!
3. The workout took approximately 2-2.5 hours!
4. During the squats, I felt myself tightening up my form and it felt as if I was actually getting stronger!!!!!!

Sheiko Deadlift day
(whoever created Sheiko is a madman! much pain today)
Deadlift 1x10x120 1x5x300 2x5x360 3x4x420 2x2x450 (this was suppose to be 4 sets of 3 but I need to work up to this type of volume)
Incline dumbell press 1x10x100 1x10x120 1x8x120
Rack deadlifts (I used bands to help with my explosiveness) 6X5x220+300 lbs of resistance from bands=520
Front Squats 3x4x220
2 hours to complete workout, much pain, at first I was really into while do deads, but then I wasn't sure, buy the time the front squats came around I was feeling pretty strong but worn out.
Good workout
Sheiko = evil!

I cut the workout a little short. I got tons of homework due for Saturday so I dropped all the accessory movements. I was also feeling a little tired from 12 hour work day and 2 hours of accounting homework! ugh!
good workout lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes!

I pushed it today with the rest between sets. I wanted this workout to end within 2 hours. I think day 1 will always be the toughest of the sheiko. So far its certainly the longest.
Workout duration- 2 1/2 hours !!!!!!!
However a couple of observations. 1. I truely believe this program will help your form. I feel like everylift I do is exploding, either out of the hole (squats) or off my chest (bench). Its almost like it has no choice but to explode! 2. My legs (oddly enough) felt as if they were getting strong as the workout progresses!?!?!?!
I am now wondering if I will be able to get out of my chair once I stop posting?

be warned sheiko is not for the faint of heart, but will produce results for powerlifters. I believe some of the core philosphy of sheiko is that you are working with weights which are moderately heavy, but not so heavy that they are too much. This then allows you to work on speed with a weight that is heavy enough. The volume wears you down a bit, but forces you to concentrate on form and speed to get you threw the sets.
