Two questions, and one comment.
Comment: I'm an (awful)powerlifter, but a bodybuilding fan. Majorly. But, it's so subjective (yes, so is a lot of gymnastics, but...)it's not a good candidate for an Olympic sport, IMHO.
Question: any thoughts as to why we are nowhere in the Olympic lifting; if I read it right, we have no medals, -0-, and some teeny tiny countries have some.
Question: my understanding, albeit limited, is that two of the reasons Powerlifting is not in the Olympics is that a)it has the reputation of being very drugged, b)the Olympic lifters don't want another barbell sport in the Olympics. Okay; I'm prejudiced, but it seems to be a more logical sport, to me, than some of the shooting, badminton, etc.
throwing this open for discussion

USA has a pretty thin history in Olympic lifting. Over the last 40 years I mostly remember it being the province of the (heavily doped) Eastern European lifters. Historic medal count

Ok my friends... we are gonna make something clear ;D USA: 88 medals for 302 M Americans = 1 medal every 3,5 M people! Canada 13 medals for 32 M Canadians = 1 medal every 2,5 M people! ;D I need to find consolations where I can... to compensate our lack of athletic abilities! On a more serious note, I fallowed the performances of Phelps and I'm shocked, he is AMAZING! At a certain point, just by himself, he had 5 more medals than Canada! ;D

Fit, when you say "pretty thin", you're being kind. If I read it correctly, there are some smaller countries [Indonesia, Ukraine, Taipei]that got two medals, a number of countries got one. Between the men and women, in all the weight classes, US got -0-. That's zero, if I got it right. Very sad. Not to take anything away from the really phenomenal swimmers, runners, and other athletes, but what's happening? My guess is that we not only don't have the culture, but the kids in this country who would be great lifters get steered into football. My thoughts; comments and contradiction welcome. And the strength and conditioning and bodyfat level on the gymnasts!!

Favourite moments?
Phelps for sure. Watching Simon Whitfield come back from the dead to take silver in the triathlon - he almost won it. Usain Bolt, who is the Phelps of running ... even if he does need a humility check.
Oh ... women's synchronized swimming .... all of it. #drool3xm#
