Intensity: Well it was almost 10 years ago. Like I say, assuming I would have hit 225 just sitting on my ass anyways, an extra 50lbs over close to 10 years isn't so impressive.

I started training to help my martial arts. Before I knew it, I was in the gym five days a week (10:00 am) and training martial arts a good 10 hours per week (usually two hours/weeknight).
After several months I loved BB so much, I swtiched full time and decided to try to compete... after three years or so I did.

Troyster, liftinchic... Did you experiment the same?: If you explain to someone that you lift weight because you like that... they can understand... for them lifting weight is to become better in another sport Mo

I've always been athletic, started track at 7, swimming at 10. Dad had me lifting ridiculously light weight in 9th grade. Coach lost her mind that he was making me too heavy for distance running. lol! Quit with running, went to college, met The Munster and we started lifting at the campus gym. Its gotten heavier over the years and I'm enjoying not being skinny. Man I hated being skinny!

Like TLM, I don't like being skinny. I mainly started for health reasons... high risk for osteoporosis & diabetes runs in the family. Started working out & found out it actually helps with my mood swings & keeps me from being down on myself. Kinda like taking a happy pill. Cardio is what keeps me sane, I really believe that.

well..now that i look back on myself..i used to spend my whole summer at home...eating snacks..playing games online....all the way until 5am sometimes..cause it was so fun playing war games with people around the world.
I could easily finish off 4 cans of coca cola during the time i was playing games. I felt like a nobody. Doing this day in and day out during the summer..i felt weak and fat.
If i kept that up...by the time i am 20yrs old..i would be FAT and Lazy!
Its a good thing i saw the light and saved myself.
I also want to prove to my family members who are so against me lifting in the gym. They believe that lifting stunts growth...thinks i'll get osteo...whatever deadlifting....etc.

Coach lost her mind that he was making me too heavy for distance running. lol! haha, my mother was frightened that i'll become to muscular from day one in the gym! When i told her that i strated to train... i'm sure that she thought about a 300 pounds Mo in lest than 3 weeks 8 years later... i still cant pass the magic number of 220 ;D

There is another syndrome: "The show me your biceps" You must admit that you never heard "show me your triceps or your quads"! I get accused of this alot. Not because my other bodyparts are lagging but because my biceps are pretty damn big. I guess its a blessing but I do not prioritize them at all!

I have been involved in sports since elementary school aka the ultimate "tomboy". Got my first bike for my 6th birthday.....a Honda MR 50. In 1987, I joined the Army, met a bb, got hooked on the lifestyle & the rest they say is history. Side note, that same bb, also an ex used to tell me...."Honey, I know that you want to compete, etc. but I don't think that you have the genetics to win a competition." Yeah, ok babe, I just love a challenge. Fast forward, 2004....that ex contacted me recently through military.com, just imagine that conversation. Jade ps The first bb pic that I stapled to my teenage bedroom wall was Ed Corney.

My very first exposure was on a 1970 trip to LA. Lots of muscled bods, male and female, and there was a news stand at the LA Farmers Market. I picked up a copy of Muscular Development, and not only did it show pics of BB'ers, it explained HOW to be like them.
That lit a fire in the old belly. When I got back I joined the Y, and tho I was a mess , I stuck with it.
I still have that magazine, and MD is still my fave.

Started lifting weights as a high school freshman as it was pretty much required to play football. I hated it! I was working out with a sophmore girl as my training partner. Not hating on the ladies, but that was embarassing as 14 yo kid. I remember squatting the bar with no plates and quivering under it. Can't remember how much I weighed but I was pretty sickly the three years before with asthma. Spent a lot of time in the hospital. But the coach and my dad kept me after it. By the time I was a junior I was squatting three plates a side and was hooked. I was making strength gains on a weekly basis. My senior year I was the strongest kid in the school and proud of it. (It was a small school I'll admit ) Went to college to play football and realized quickly that I wasn't the strongest kid anymore! Nor was I as good a football player that I was in highschool. Dropped out of college, joined the Air Force, got kicked out of there, went home for a couple of years and decided that playing college ball wasn't so bad after all. So started lifting again and went back to play. Didn't get that much time in but stayed after it. Wrecked my ankle and quit again. Started partying a lot and lost all my gains I had made over the years. You don't add muscle mass drinking, smoking and doing bong hits! Dropped out of college and starting lifting again. Nothing much but a trip to the gym about 2-3 times a week for a while. Got married, wife had our son and I decided I wanted my son to grow up with the love of weights that I had/have, so I joined a gym and really made some improvements and had a couple folks comment on my genetics. Then the best thing happened to me. Golds Gym built a brand new gym 10 minutes from my house and soon thereafter a guy opened a supplement store across the street! Made friends with the guy who owns the store and used to compete years ago. We're roughly the same age and now train with him regularly. Consider me officially bit by the bug!
