Hey TJ. I rembered that you said you were trying to work up to over 100 pounds in the weighted chest dips. Well i've scrapped bench pressing for the time being and i'm doing just supersets of weighted chest dips and dumbbell flys. I thought it would be interesting and fun and make each of us train that little much harder if we had an online contest between you and myself. What do ya say mate? The first one to reach 10 reps on the weighted chest dips with 100 pounds hanging from our waist wins. I couldn't think of what the winner should get so we'll just make it a friendly online contest with one of us having the satisfaction of being the winner. As i recall your already in the 80's for dips. Well i'm only at 24.2 pounds just now for 10 reps. Way behind but i'm up for the challenge.....Are YOU? ;D If you fancy it post back and each of us will post back here to update one another on any weight increases or rep improvements. Should be fun! Robert

I might have to join this contest I can do a 45 pound plate for about 14 on the first set but less reps every set after that. Tim I got a question about this, I like weighted dips but heard the are bad foe the cuff and shoulders in general, some people insist they are dangerous but yet alot of top BB's do them. I recently have been having soreness in my cuffs so I quit doing them. what is your take on them in terms of shoulder injury?

Hey Cakeater, the more the merryier man. Plus it doesn't matter that your reps go down hill after each set. Just take your heaviest weight for the most amount of reps you got with that poundage whether it was set 1 or set 10.
Yip TJ, you are certainly way ahead of the pack but not for long....
Ok i'm up to 28.6 pounds for 10 reps.. Its only week 2 for me so give me time, lol!
By the way not that it matters but i hang dumbbells from my waist. ;D

You guy`s are all out to get me!It`s a conspiracy. ;D ;D Cake,I think it really depends on the individual as to whether or not they are bad for the rotator cuffs.I really never had a problem with them.A lot of people can`t do presses behind the neck for the same reason, but I have no problem with them myself.I also hang a dumbell from my waist. We have a dipping belt at my gym, but I just slip a dog chain througfh the front of my lifting belt with a quick relese clip on it ,and it seems to feel better. Not to make excuses but I hurt my lower back(Boo Hoo ;D) So that may be a problem.(Don`t bet on it )It`s early and I`m in a silly mood .Get cracking guy`s!!

Yip no excuses Tim. They'll be no whiners in this contest.
Doesn't matter if you have two broken arms, you train through the pain. ;D

Mac, I go all the way down.If I were you I would avoid any exercise that aggraveates an injured area.Once you heal work into them slowly. It`s not worth getting hurt ,besides ,I don`t need another guy out to lynch me. ;D

Allright Rob,nice going!! I`m scheduled to do chest on Tues.but my gym`s closed due to the snow here today. This is good in a way because I recently hurt my back which is feeling much beter. One more day of rest and I`ll be even stronger ,hoefully.Good progress Riobert,I`m glad we are doing this as I have no incentive here where I live other than the motivation that comes from within,so it`s a good challenge to make us train that much harder.Like I said in an earlier post, the only true winnner is our bodies.Keep Pumpin`!!

Yip its always good to put abit of pressure on yourself with a challenge. I mean i train alone so i don't really have the camerada or however you spell it to challenge your training partner so i do it online instead. It still works for me and makes working out much more fun. Helps get your ass to the gym on days when its raining or snowing etc.
I guess i have a better gym than you from reading what you just wrote. At my gym members get their own key to open the gym whenever they want. So basically members can train at whatever time they choose. For the past 2 weeks there i was able to get my parents car and so i was training at 5.30am in the morning. It was bloody freezing. And the car was frozen solid. Had trouble opening the door it was that bad, lol! But it meant i had the rest of the day to do whatever i liked.
At that time though there's no one around. Almost creep like. The whole area around the gym is pitch black. Anything happens, theres no one around to help. Thats the only downfall. But on a more positive note, i don't have to wait for anyone to get off a machine i want to use. ;D

I hear ya about the gym.Mine is one of only two on a college campus and it isn`t too good.I`m being very nice in case the owner is reading this. ;D I`m going to start a thread about adversity and motivation, and more will be included about my gym.I too train alone, and have no spot, so this little contest is a good motivator.Don`t even talk about cold bro,I live in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY, and it`s akin to living at the "North Pole" .My gym is always empty most of the time so I have to create my own atmosphere.I do alright though,as most of the members are better off staying home anyway, for all the lack of working out they do.

Robert,I got 8 reps with the 80 pound dumbell today. The last rep was very shaky ,but I managed to squeeze it out. This was after 6 sets of heavy benches, ans 4 sets of heavy barbell inclines.I was obviously pretty warmed, up so I did 10 with the 40 #, and went right to the 80 # for 8.It was tough.
