When carb cycling i find it hard to stuff my self with straight veggies, especially on the lower days. Recently i found some whole wheat puffed cereal with only 11 carbs per cup, which is pretty good, i replace this with oatmeal on my really low days just so i feel i eat more lol. But what are your secret low carb foods you use when dieting?

The secret? There really isn't one. But what helped me was to make sure I just ate mostly meat. Cottage cheese, steak, chicken, tuna etc... Have to be careful around the cheeses, they have lactose, and that's a carb (counted as one). But if you stick with mostly meat, red meat or otherwise, you should be getting close to zero carbs for however long you keep it that way. I'm pretty much a carnivore, so I enjoy eating this way, but I do have my carbs here and there too. Have to! But it's not necessary- remember there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate!

1cup eggwhites spenda and cinnamon to taste Whip it up in a blender .. until light and floffy .. cook it up in a pan sprayed with pam just like a pancake!

Thanks for the input, im not really looking for a secret, but just on low carb days i like to eat a low carb food just so i can eat more to feel me up, more of a mental thing i think lol

I put sugar-free jelly on my plain rice cakes........makes them actually taste good, instead of tasting like dry styrofoam !! ;D

I never worry about the GI of foods,but this is what I found for puffed wheat: Glycemic Index for: Puffed Wheat: Food: Puffed Wheat (Quaker) Glycemic Index: 74 Glycemic Index Rating: High

The GI index, unless your a Diabetic, is worthless. The three main things people need to worry about when trying to get big, or get lean are (in order!) as follows:
1) Activity levels 2) Calories 3) Macro-nutrient composition.
If your burning off all the calories you are eating, then you'll lose weight, period. If you take in more, you'll gain weight, period. The GI doesn't take into effect the fact that calories are the main reason your getting too fat, or what not. I want to make VERY CLEAR that the GI index is basically worthless UNLESS YOUR A DIABETIC.

Believe it or not when I'm dieting stictly I feel less hungary on low carb days than on carb up days. The high carb days do seem to pick me up though.

B/c otherwise there would be no point in eating high GI carbs post workout. But thanks for the post, im relieved now cuz i can use the puffed wheat for protein pancakes which will make almost triple the amout oatmeal makes at the same g carbs

Post-Workout would be an exception,as you want fast digesting carbs that spike insulin levels.

I'm not even sure if I believe that p.w. it's beneficial, unless your shooting insulin. But I think my jury is still out on that one. Sapphire, no- carbs are NOT needed in any way shape or form. Remember a line I've used before in various posts and jokes? "There is no such thing as an essential carb!" Not even pizza. Remember, the definition of essential is "your body cannot produce it and must get it from an outside source." You have essential fatty acids, being Omega 3's and 6's. Protein, you have 8 essential Aminos, and 2 more "conditionally essential" meaning you don't need them, but you need them in such great amounts it's beneficial or optimal to ingest them on a supplemental basis. But name me ONE essential carb....you won't find one. DNutz- you don't need carbs, and I don't think you need to time them in any way, shape or form. Afterworkout or otherwise. These are my opinions, but other than after a workout, and if your a diabetic, I don't think you'll find any literature (that's not completely rigged/biased in some way/shape/form) that will say otherwise. Just eat, eat big, lift correctly, consistantly change your program to suit your goals (but not so much as in every workout), and make SURE YOU DON'T SKIP ANY WORKOUTS<<<<that's the key. I don't care what genetics you have. What roids you may or may not take. The two biggest things you canNOT replace in weight training, are: CONSISTENCY and EATING.

From what I understand YB,when insulin levels spike from the carbs,the insulin shuttles nutrients into the depleted muscle cells. Now when a quick digesting protein like whey is ingested along with those carbs,and gets shuttled into the depleted cells also,you are on the road to PW recovery. Readers Digest version and quite "un" scientific explanation from yours truly.

Carbs are NOT essential to the human diet,but they sure make dieting a hell of a lot more pleasureable.
I think that Dave Palumbo is one guy who eats only protein and fats for the majority of his diet with the occasional carb day,and he gets so ripped he can eat McDonalds greasy burgers .......without bread of course since they contain carbs.
Pass the oatmeal will ya` please? ;D

Carbs are least important. Like YB stated their are essential fats which are, well, essential. Then there is protein which means "most important". Latin word. I do think carbs have their place, but only every so often. The increase glycogen storage and seem to spike the metabolism as well as suck water out of the skin and into the muscle. I too NO lnoger believe in post workout carbs. I look at the week as a whole, not just by day or workout.
