Don't worry Ski, you'll get right back in there. Few weeks and you'll be training like a Demon. I also hate when I have to get back into training. If I ever have the flu I lose weight cause I don't feel like eating. This past winter I had the flu and I lost 8 lbs. You could only imagine how angry a bodybuilder is loseing any weight when trying to gain weight. Goodluck with the training, and of course, keep us update!

hey tim, its whssenior from the ironage forum. i've noticed there havn't been many posts lately here, so i'd thought i'd comment. i'm wanting to get bigger, but i also want to have a lean, toned midsection. as a kid i was always chunky, but these past two years i have made some excellent gains in both strength and muscularity. but my question for you is how can i maintain the size i have now and still get bigger while trying to get ab defintion at the same time?

whssenior,Welcome to the board, glad to have your input. For a first post you`ve asked a very hard question!! To add mass while staying lean is almost impossible. It can be done however ,but is a slow process. Are you presently carrying a lot of excess fat in your waist area? It would help a lot to know how you are training, and how you are eating. Thanks.

tim, i'm not carrying a lot of fat in my stomach, but some. i can see a little ab definition but not much. i'm 18 going on 19 years old and still live at home, so i can't afford a pro bodybuilder's grocery list. i do however eat pretty healthy, stuff like fat free butterball turkey slices for sandwiches, chicken, oatmeal, ground chuck, 1% milk, bananas, tuna, etc. i have been holding off on the junk lately. so as far as a diet standpoint i think i have been doing ok. right now i'm eating a bowl of raw oatmeal mixed with cheerios. ;D

also i am coming off of a week layoff. i have been working out about 4 times a week. i use mainly free weights and do anywhere from 9-12 total sets per bodypart. i don't know what my bodyfat percentage is, but i would guess around 14-15%. i hope this is the info you're looking for, ask me if you need to know something else.

Thanks,that does help a bit.
I would concentrate on trying to eat clean every three hours ,6 times a day, traiin heavy and basic, add in cardio 4-5 times weekly to aid in recovery and to burn bodyfat.
Get a gram of protein minimum per pound of bodyweight, from "clean" protein sources, like eggs, egg whites, chicken breast, tuna, fish, and lean beef.
I`d cut the dairy products and bread, while adding in cleaner carb sources like yams, baked potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal, sweet potatoes. Also eat a lot of fibrous vegetables.
Throw in at least a gallon of water a day, and you`re on a more structured path,to gaining size, while hopefully losing some of the bodyfat simultaneously.
Cheerios ,bread, and dairy, won`t do much as far as getting leaner goes, in my opinion, though they are all OK to eat at times, depending upon your goals.
Avoid excess fats like butter, margarine, mayonnaise, etc. and of course sugary or greasy junk foods.

No training for the last two days. I have had some sort of bug and feel like I have been beaten with a pool cue (Don't ask how I know how that feels). Guess I will shift my schedule two days so as not to get completely off track.

Did arms alone tonight. Didn't feel very strong or motivated for some reason. I did a slight change in bi's tonight. I have been doing 3X6 seated alternating curls. Tonight I tried dropping 5lbs on the dumbells and did 3X8 with a final set of 10. Got a much better pump than usual and it felt just as trying on the muscle. I followed with 3X6 on EZ bar. The weight I have been using on the EZ still feels like the max I can do complete smooth reps.

Mike, It look`s like you,me,and Jaxon are having a rough time training this week.
I feel like I`m dying energy wise and I`m just going to lower the intensity for the rest of the week.
And also going to bed a little earlier ,not that I ever sleep much!

Today was my day off and I have managed to catch a cold or something of the sort. Not feeling well at all. Sore throat, head congestion and runny nose. Ended up doing 45min/500cal of cardio and light abs, but wasn't really into it. If it wasn't for the hottie on the Elliptical next to me... I don't think I would have finished. I know, very sad. Tomorrow is back/traps/calves and I am hoping to shake this quick like and get back in a groove.

Did several heavy squats of 8 reps, lunges, calves, and abs. A very good workout overall. Felt like I was going to pass out after squatting, boy those take ALOT out of you!

Do you guys find that doing legs/squats turns you into an animal? What I mean is that I can call upon TREMENDOUS intensity by doing squats. On other exercises I don't get that adrenalin rush to give out a might YELL and really push my body to the limit. Is it perhaps because squats employ so many different muscle groups working at once? I find that I can go maximum intensity on squats., the same with deads. It's amazing!

I`m the same way on squats!!
I train everything as hard as possible but squats have a tendency to bring out the best in you.
Probably because one false step could really screw you up.
They are a challenge I love to accept and defeat !!
